Paul Zangue
Executive Director

Prior to coming to work for Breaking Ground, Paul was the manager of the Foreke-Dschang branch of MC2, the microfinance division of Afriland First Bank. In his tenure at MC², Paul served as the advisor to several volunteers from the Peace Corps’ Small Enterprise Development program. Paul has extensive experience working in community development, having served with both SAILD (Services d'Appui aux Initiatives Locales de Développement) andBINUM (an association of small farmers from the Western Region of Cameroon). Since 2008, Paul has served as a project manager and regional representative for Breaking Ground in the West Region, overseeing the Menouet River Bridge Project and the construction of the Keuleng Preschool and Community Center. Paul has a Masters in Agribusiness from the University of Dschang and grows coffee in his home village of Litieu. He and his family live in downtown Dschang.

Etienne Fouejio
Volunteer Director, Breaking Ground Football 

Since 2007, Etienne has served as the volunteer director of Breaking Ground Football. Originally from the village of Bafou in the West Region of Cameroon, Etienne now lives with his family in Ngaoundéré where he works for the Delegation of Sports and Physical Education. He works tirelessly for Breaking Ground Football, managing the network of volunteer coaches, organizing games and tournaments, and serving as a coach himself.

Jeff Walton

Board Chair

Jeff holds a doctorate degree in Sustainability Education, from Prescott College, Prescott, Arizona. He works as Executive Director in the House of Blue Hope, Dar es Salam, Tanzania/ Bayonne, New Jersey, where he leads an operations committee to develop, implement and evaluate new and existing programs. Through his work with the House of Blue Hope he promoted and coordinated annual board and donor trips to Tanzania. He also served as Development Consultant in TATU project, Tanzania, where he designed, monitored, and evaluated new entrepreneurial, agricultural, and women's economic empowerment programs.

Jeff is currently a lecturer at Champlain College, located in Burlington, Vermont where he teaches graduate courses in the Master of Science in Executive Leadership and Master of Business Administration programs. He has done a lot of research that strongly relates to Breaking Ground's objectives for sustainable development.

Founders

Lindsay Clarke

Co-Founder

Lindsay is a graduate of Wesleyan University and an alumnus of The School for International Training’s Culture and Development program in Cameroon. At Wesleyan, Lindsay received her BA in Sociology and French Studies, focusing her studies on post-colonialism, globalization, and the impacts of imperialism in Cameroon. Upon her graduation from Wesleyan, Lindsay was the recipient of the Christopher Brodigan Award for public service in Africa. In 2006, she lived in the Cameroonian city of Dschang and taught English at a primary school in the rural village of Doumbouo. Lindsay received a dual Masters in World and International History from Columbia University and the London School of Economics in 2012. During her studies, she conducted research in Bamako, Mali, and wrote her dissertation about the efforts of the Malian state to settle nomadic populations. After serving as Board Chair for over 10 years, Lindsay handed the role over to Jeff. Lindsay currently teaches middle and high school History at Waynflete School in Portland, Maine, where she lives with her two children. 

Sarah Oxford 
Co-Founder

While volunteering for Breaking Ground in 2007, Sarah Oxford, founded the Women's Entrepreneurial Program(WEP) and Breaking Ground Football in Ngaoundéré. A recipient of Victoria University's (Melbourne) International Postgraduate Research Scholarship, Sarah is currently pursuing a PhD in Sociology, examining the impact of youth soccer programs in developing nations on gender relations within the community.  In 2012, as a Rotary World Peace Fellow, Sarah completed an MA with distinction in African Peace and Conflict Studies at the University of Bradford, UK. She received her BA in Third World Studies and French Literature from the University of the South (Sewanee, TN). In the Spring of 2004, Sarah participated in the School for International Training program in Cameroon.  Visit her blog to read about her experience as a Ground Coordinator in 2007-2008.
